HERD AROUND THE WORLD
is a collaborative creative project wherein 6 plastic animals: HORSE, PIG, COW, BULL, SHEEP AND GOAT travel the world in search of the meaning of everything. They travel with a HERDER whose human eyes give them sight and insight into the various geographic and environmental peculiarities of each region throughout the world. THE HERD came to life in February of 2002 in the oil fields of West Texas: Midland/Odessa to be exact. For the past ten years, HORSE, PIG, COW, BULL, SHEEP AND GOAT have searched far and wide trying to understand the difference between their plastic reality and life. THE HERD yearns for a life they can never have, yet somehow they know that everything is connected in some strange way, even plastic. THE HERD has no problem finding other petroleum-based by-products. They find plastic junk everywhere. They don't want to end up as trash. These six domestic farm animals are part of every culture. They have nourished us from the time man began to hunt. They became our allies when man began to farm. These animals have different meanings in different cultures. A COW is sacred in India, whereas in the United States she's most often a slave to food production. As children we learn THE HERD'S sounds before we learn our own language: BAA, OINK, MOO, etc. Come along for a different kind of journey where you'll see through THE HERD'S eyes. You'll soon see how HORSE, PIG, COW, BULL, SHEEP AND GOAT become avatars for their HERDERS. It's just the way it is. THE HERD welcomes your comments. |
